In one corner of the ITER Assembly Hall, work has started on the second of the six central solenoid modules. Once all six modules are stacked one on top of another, they will form the 18-meter-tall, 1,000-tonne ITER central solenoid.
As of July 2023, three of the needed six central solenoid modules have been delivered to the ITER site.
The component is the third of seven modules expected on site.
Experts from the ITER Members met for two days in February 2023 at ITER Headquarters to share the latest technological developments in the design of the ITER disruption mitigation system.
The first sequence of central solenoid assembly will be to install the three lower modules on top of the key blocks.
